Formula 1 guru Michele Lupini considers the problems afflicting the prospect of a Miami Grand Prix and compares the shenanigans to the time Formula 1 ran races in Las Vegas – in a huge car park in 1981 and 1982.

Bernie Ecclestone, F1 supremo of the time, always wanted to break into America and Las Vegas was one of his ‘light bulb moments’ as was Phoenix and Detroit. Yes, F1 has tried just about everything to entice US fans to the sport.

With Miami hanging in the balance as another chapter of the F1’s version of ‘Coming to America’ and could face the same pitfalls that rendered Las Vegas car-park racing into oblivion.
